Cisco founder makes optics familiar to Cisco engineers
Cisco co-founder Len Bosack is hoping his latest network invention transforms the way companies do business, much the same way as Cisco routers did.
Bosack's XKL LLC has developed the DXM optical transport system, a 1-rack unit device supporting up to 100Gbps that enables enterprises with access to dark fiber to construct their own point-to-point metro-area optical link, reports Network World's Jim Duffy.
The system can be monitored and reconfigured remotely through a familiar command line interface (CLI) – a Cisco router-like CLI. This could mean that Cisco certified engineers could operate the box almost immediately, notes Eve Griliches, an analyst at IDC.
