Networking For Kids

If I had a kid I'd tell him to forget about the Public Fool System and start digging in to his networking books. Get good enough at it to get himself a job in it and keep on studying from there.

But at this time I feel I could not provide that for any kid due to various real or imagined constraints, therefore I would like to start helping any kids who might be surfing around for Cisco and telecom stuff.

The kid readership of this blog may be minuscule at this time, but take heart, young future generations of networker engineers! It is possible! And onward we must continue!

What is the future of this incredible thing called The Internet that we have in our hands today?

My God! I can scarcely imagine the possibilities! Notwithstanding the complete shut down of the internet by some totalitarian dictator that comes to power following World War 5 or whichever one is coming up next.

But the internet reacts to censorship as an outage! It simply ROUTES and SWITCHES around the censorship. What a wonderful thing. Best to know all you can about this routing and switching business. Seems to be fairly ubiquitous in today's world.

Any kid would love to have his own computer with a wireless card and cell phone and spiffy computer carry bag from Wal-Mart.

That's step one. Probably easier to get a kid interested from that end. Ask him how he thinks he is getting connected to all of this information. Ask him to figure it out and give you a full report on his blog.

When is it too young to start? I guess that would be up to the kid and his parents. People say let a kid be a kid. What about letting a baby be a baby. It seems to me that the main objective of the public fool system is to keep kids babies for as long as they can in hopes that the kid will remain a baby long after he has become a full grown adult.

And it seems to be working.

But fear not young future Internetworking Engineers! Onward we must continue!
